If you are a regular reader of Bob Smizik's excellent blog on the Post-Gazette website, you have no doubt already read this. I couldn't have said it better myself. In fact, I think I did say it last week after JR sent Sean Gallagher to bat against the Mets!

If anyone knows what defense Russell described for not pinch hitting for Gallagher in the Aug 20 game against the Mets, please let us all know. I watched the game on the Mets TV network and was unbelievably surprised when he let Gallagher bat. What could have been thinking???
ReplyDeleteJim, Russell gave some half-assed explanation for this bewildering move that ran, amazingly for JR, six sentences long. It had sopmething to do with not wanting to stretch the bullpen, and the top of the order was due up in the next inning, and it was early in the game and blah blah blah. It was a ridiuculous explanation for a rididulous move, one that will surely be cited when the axe falls, deservedly, on JR when the season ends.
