NFL Power Rankings, Week 10 - Grandstander vs. FGE

Time to take a look at the NFL Power Rankings according to The Grandstander (GPR) and Frissora Gaming Enterprises (FGE).

Lots of similarities.

First, The Grandstander Power Ratings for Week 10 of the NFL If the NFL Did It Like College Football Does It.

1. Ravens (jump from #4 to #1)
2. Patriots (idle Pats hold down second spot)
3. Saints (loss to Falcons cause Saints to drop two spots - for now)
4. Seahawks (MNF win over SF puts them in the Top 4)

Knocking at the door....49ers, Packers, Texans

Now, the FGE Rankings.  Here is his verbatim report to me:

After this week's action the Top 3 do not change, but the Ravens move up a
notch into the TOP 4.  FGE wasn't buying the 49ers, and not surprised if
they end up 10-6.  Steelers are #12 by the way.

1 - (last week #1) - New Orleans - Everyone is entitled to a bad day at the
office.

2 - (last week #2) - New England - Week off to gear up to close out the
season with 7 straight.

3- (last week #3) - Seattle - FGE has been on Seattle all year.  Not
surprised for a SB rematch with NE

4 - (last week #5) - Baltimore - Breaks the Top 4 after sitting on the edge
last week.  Fun team to watch, both sides of the ball.


Only team close to breaking into this crew are the Packers.

As you can see, we have the same four teams, but in different order.  John has the local team at #12 on his rankings.  As I see it, the Steelers need to win two of next three games (Browns, Bengals, Browns), and possibly even sweep those three, before I have them "knocking at the door."

NFL Power Rankings: Grandstander vs. FGE

Earlier this week, I released my Grandstander Power Rankings on Facebook.  They are as follows....

The Grandstander's Week 8 NFL Power Rankings if the NFL Did It Like College Football:

1. Patriots
2. Saints
3. 49'ers
4. Packers

Knocking at the door....Colts, Rams, Ravens, Seahawks

Today my pal John Frissora released his FGE NFL Power Rankings.  Here that are, along with his commentary.....

The Top 2 remain the same, as they appear to be on a Super Bowl collision course.

1. (Last Week 1) - New Orleans - Brees is back and Saints keep marching.

2. (Last Week 2) - New England - Didn't realize that there are three Belichicks coaching the Pats.  Reminds me of a bad insurance agency.

3. (Last Week 6) - Green Bay - Not just the Aaron Rogers show this year.  They can play some D.

4. (Last Week 5) - Seattle - Bounce back in the Top 4 after the Chiefs lose and they defeat the Falcons.

Next Team Up - Indianapolis Colts - Win at Pittsburgh not as big a deal anymore.  

So the GPR and FGE agree more than they disagree, but John not showing any love for the 49'ers.  What's up with that?

I am also using his forum to make a special request of John...I would like to hear his analysis of the Cleveland Browns thus far in 2019.  Was FGE on the Browns-to-the-Super-Bowl Bandwagon that so many others were prior to the season, and what to make of the fact that they currently are below the 3-4 Steelers in the AFC North standings.  Stay tuned.

Week 6 NFL Power Rankings

Back on September 16 I announced an exciting joint venture that would take place between The Grandstander and Frissora Gaming enterprises (FGE), headed by long time pal John Frissora.

Now, after the conclusion of Week 6 of the NFL season, I announce the first Grandstander Power Rankings (GPR) of 2019:

1. Patriots
2. Saints
3. 49'ers
4. Seahawks

Teams Knocking at the door - Chiefs, Packers, Vikings.

I expect that the GPR will be somewhat fluid over the next several weeks.

Now, I will give you John's FGE Power Rankings as he sent them on to me, including his cutting edge and always amusing commentary:

Week #6 Power Rankings

As many of you know, FGE has mastered the analytics behind horse race handicapping.  There are 27 metrics that determine the winner of a horse race.  FGE has also developed analytics regarding the outcome of basketball games (14 measures) and Football games (8 measures).  The differing number of metrics needed to determine each of these three sports, as you note, declines as the number of participants increase.  Meaning, the variability of trying to predict how one horse will perform is considerably higher than 11 men working together on the football field.  Hence the 27 vs 8 measures.

 FGE has yet to find the "secret sauce" needed for hockey and baseball analytics.  Funny, that a sport so rich in the history of statistics (Baseball) apparently produces data that cannot consistently determine the winner of a given game.  But, FGE will keep trying and possibly put this off until the lights are turned off at F&A, the fastest growing health care consulting firm on God's green earth,  for the last time.

But that's enough introduction. Let's get to the NFL - CFP Rankings based on the Malcom Baldridge Award winning Analytics of FGE:

4. Kansas City Chiefs - Have dropped two straight, but still hold onto the final spot.  Too much talent in all three aspects of the game to not be here in the long run.

3. Seattle Seahawks - Only surprise team in the Top 4 so far.  One loss this year as their ability to close out a game is exceptional.

2. New England Patriots - Pope Prays for Peace in the Middle East, Pirates Sign 32 Year Old Journeyman, Teamster Boss Faces Renewed Federal Charges, Patriots Favored to Win the AFC.  Headlines of....Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

1. New Orleans - I thought that a team that lost their franchise starting QB was done for the year?? Oh wait, this team isn't coached by Mike Tomlin.  No Brees...No Problem.  Winning by scores of 12-10 and 13-6 in two of the past three weeks.  


Team waiting to break into the Top 4 ....... Houston Texans
