Bob Sheppard's Funeral

I heard last night that no -as in zero - Yankees players were in attendance at Bob Sheppard's funeral yesterday. Can that be true? If so, were there extenuating circumstances? I would bet that this would not have been the case if George Steinbrenner were alive and well and still running things.

Also, if this is true, then it makes The Captain's insistence that a recording of Bob Sheppard introducing him when he comes to bat ring with a bit of false piety.

I know of one Loyal Reader out there who can give us the full lowdown on this.

  1. Funeral attendance aside, there seems to be a marked drop in the number of replys to your commentaries.

Since Quinnipiac is too busy with November approaching to do a poll for you, herewith is a suggestion:

Readers: Why are you not responding?

    1. I am too busy.

    2. I have to wash my hair.

    3. The novelty is gone.

    4. Need more comments inviting responses.

    5. Comments are made in an authoritarian manner that does not invite response.

    6. I just don't like the other responders. What I think is none of their business.

    7. Topics are too bland. What more can be said about the Pirates?

    8. If a blog gets most of its replies and interest relating to curling, I am hanging out in the wrong part of the interweb.

    9. All of the above.

    10. None of the above.

PS - Re the Pirates last night: "Hey, you can't lose 'em all."

  2. To Billl's comment/list of reasons, I didn't realize that there were too few responses. I enjoy the Grandstander's eclectic array of topics and opinions. Missing among "La Jolla Boy's" top 10 is a one that could be frustrating to loyal readers' attempts:

Sometimes after typing in a comment (like I'm doing now), then clicking on "Post Comment", the Googe/blog system demands that you re-login, (I guess to verify your existence). When you do this, it ERASES your comment, and you need to start over again; very annoying, and a possible deterrent to posting frequent replies.
Go Bucs! 2 in a row.

  3. The Duke of La Jolla steps aside to honor eclectic 6521.

    Memorioes of 1954.

Was going to write a curt reply to your comment, instead, you get a picture of Curt.

  4. Poppy - are you actually logging in when you first type your comment? Also, when prompted to log in, you can highlight and "copy" your comment, and then "paste" it in the comment box when you do log in (or re-log in). I speak from experience on this point.

  5. WOW! Never thought I'd see a photo of Curtis Roberts. Well done, Bill. Thanks for that memory.
Bob, I do copy my comment ... (uh, when I remember to)... then paste it later.
Curt Roberts was one ugly dude, don't you think?
