Bloggin' Bob Smizik raises the question this morning about what will the Pirates do when Ross Ohlendorf comes off of the disabled list. Do you put him back in the rotation and send his replacement, Jeff Karstens, back to the bullpen? Not after how well Karstens has pitched, you don't. Also, what about former #1 pick Brad Lincoln. Yes, Lincoln bombed in Pittsburgh last season, but he IS a #1 draft pick, and he has been pitching very well in Indy after a rocky start this season.
Nice problems to have, to be sure, but it also reinforces what I said earlier in the year, and that is that after he beat the team in arbitration this winter, Ohlendorf was a prime candidate for the Pirates Traditional Salary Dump Deadline Trade, or get the Zach Duke "DFA" treatment come November.
And speaking of Karstens, how his effectiveness drops off after 75 pitches is downright spooky, don't you think?
