At the risk of sounding like a total Yinzer, only in Pittsburgh does a stadium vendor receive celebrity status. So, it was very sad to hear of the sudden death today of Kenny Geidel, the vendor with the oh-so-distinctively shrill cry of "lemonade here" has echoed throughout PNC Park, Heinz Field, Consol Energy Center, the Civic Arena, and Three Rivers Stadium since 1985. when I was at Friday night's Pirate game and saw Kenny, and more to the point, heard Kenny's lemonade call, I thought, "well, this makes the 2011 season official."
I feel very bad about this very sudden death. It really won't be the same not hearing that voice at PNC Park anymore.
RIP Kenny.
