Duquesne Athletics

Duquesne University is in the news this week - and not positively - over its decision to eliminate four men's sports, baseball, golf, swimming, and wrestling. More to the point, how the University is handling the announcement of this decision is coming under fire by student-athletes, parents, and the media.

For a better take on this, check out Bob Smizik's blog a www.post-gazette.com

  1. Bob Smizik asks some good questions. Since Murray was President I thought Duquesne had risen to an ultra first class operation.

    Now this poorly executed mess.

As Frank Sproule might have said, "When all the rocks are turned over, one may well have Title IX written on it." (or whatever that title is)

If your Colonials can carry 16 or whatever number of sports, couldn't the Dukes have done a little better than this?

  2. Friday AM. Well, the Tribune Review had an article on Duquesne referencing motives behind their moves: no on-campus baseball field or golf course, no diving well, etc. And, oh yes, Title IX considerations. They even hired an outside consultant re Title IX. Frank (above) was right. No commentary needed.
